Evan Nowell
Evan Nowell is the Southern Poverty Law Center’s director of public and media relations, leading promotional activities across the organization’s strategic impact areas.
Nowell is an experienced public relations adviser known for helping thought leaders and changemakers across the country shape narratives and drive action around some of today’s most pressing issues. Previously, per founded The Nowell Group in 2016 to help nonprofits and grassroots organizations navigate a rapidly changing media, cultural and political landscape.
Earlier, Nowell was a senior director at RF|Binder, where per led communications programs and partnerships for the agency’s education and corporate clients including The Rockefeller Foundation, New York University Stern School of Business, edX, Ameriprise Financial and IMAX. Previously, Nowell was Columbia Business School’s assistant director of media relations, where they were responsible for showcasing the breadth of the school’s research and thought leadership.
Nowell holds a master’s degree in negotiation and conflict resolution from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration in marketing from the University of Georgia Terry College of Business. Per is a member of NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists.
