Army veteran Tracey Cooper-Harris, SPLC co-founder Joe Levin and Air Force veteran Sharron Cohen at the announcement of Cooper-Harris’ lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). Levin argued Cohen’s case before the U.S. Supreme Court in 1973. It is recognized as the first successful sex discrimination case against the federal government.
