Henock Seraw’s mother, Aynalem, is photographed with James McElroy at her home in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 1994. In a recent interview with the SPLC, Aynalem said that although she was “sickened and shocked” at the time, Mulugeta’s death was not in vain because those responsible were held accountable. “I’d like to thank Jim [McElroy] and God very much for raising Henock to be successful and to have a family of his own,” she said.
