Miss. lawmaker who called to ‘lynch’ Confederate monument opponents should resign
State Rep. Karl Oliver should immediately resign from the Legislature and issue an apology.
His racist call for the murder – the lynching, no less – of those who remove symbols of the Confederacy is not only a disgrace to our state but is dangerous. His words, in fact, illustrate exactly what these monuments represent and why they should be removed from public spaces. All of Mississippi’s political leaders – especially those in Oliver’s own party – must make clear that they do not stand with him.
