Statement on Trump’s order targeting immigrants who lack healthcare coverage

Southern Poverty Law Center Interim President and CEO Karen Baynes-Dunning issued the follow the statement:

“The Trump administration is continuing its racist agenda by targeting immigrants through a cruel policy primarily aimed at family members of those already here. This is the Trump administration’s latest attempt to restrict immigration to only the wealthy and use economic status to discriminate instead of trying to reunite families.  

As has been obvious now for years, the policies of this administration have done nothing to actually address the issue of our broken immigration system. Instead, its focus lies solely on rallying its far-right political base through demonizing immigrants while implementing some of the cruelest practices our nation has ever seen.”
