Plan Your Gift
Many members of the Southern Poverty Law Center support our work to advance justice and equity by making gifts from their Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) or other retirement accounts.
SPLC supporters who are age 70½ or older may make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from their retirement account.
Tax Advantages of QCDs
- Distributions from a traditional, tax-deferred, retirement account are subject to federal, state, and local income taxes, where applicable.
- But when you direct a gift to the SPLC directly from your financial institution, the gift amount isn’t taxable.
- QCDs will satisfy the Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your retirement account if you must take one.
Use this tool if you are unsure whether you qualify for a QCD.
How To Make a Gift From Your IRA to the SPLC
