News Roundup for August 26, 2011

The neo-Nazi National Socialist Movement has announced that it will hold a rally in West Allis, Wis., in response to a series of recent attacks at the Wisconsin State Fair. Authorities have noted that many of the attackers have been black while many of the victims have been white. Police are still investigating whether the attacks were racially motivated. Many counter-protests are being planned in the aftermath of the NSM announcement.

Police in Lakeville, Minn., say they have solved a case of racist vandalism that terrorized a local African-American family. Five teens have been identified as suspects and confessed to spray-painting white supremacist graffiti in and on the family’s garage and car, even breaking into the car itself.

The fate of a 17-year-old California boy accused of shooting a gay student in class  now rests in the hands of the jury. Brandon McInerney is charged with murder as a hate crime. If convicted, the defendant faces more than 50 years in prison.
