CBS Evening News Explores Antigovernment Views of LAX Shooter
Last night, the CBS Evening News featured Hatewatch’s Mark Potok in a segment examining the antigovernment views of suspected LAX shooter Paul Ciancia. According to CBS, the FBI executed a search warrant for material “relating to Ciancia's views on the legitimacy or activities of the United States Government, including the existence of a plot to impose a New World Order.”
The FBI was pursuing the material based on a one-page "manifesto," which included a reference to a “New World Order” and was found in Ciancia’s bag at the scene of the shooting. Hatewatch reported exclusive details about the document on Saturday, including Ciancia’s use of antigovernment “Patriot” terminology and attacks against TSA and former DHS head Janet Napolitano. CBS reported that Ciancia said his goal was to “instill fear in your traitorous minds,” speaking of the TSA.
Hatewatch’s Potok provided historical context for the ideology that appears to have motivated the shooter, saying that it “basically identifies the federal government as an evil malefactor that is involved in a conspiracy to force the United States into a so-called one world government known as the new world order.”
