Stormfront: A History
Created by former Alabama Ku Klux Klan grand dragon and long-time white supremacist Stephen Donald Black, one of the first hate propagandists to fully appreciate the potential of the Web. Stormfront was the first major hate site on the Internet
While serving three years in prison for plotting to overthrow a Caribbean island, Black learned computer-programming. Following his release, he quickly put his newly learned skills to use and launched Stormfront in March 1995. The site has since grown into what may be the Western world's most popular forum for racists, Holocaust deniers and criminals to post articles, engage in discussions and share news of upcoming racist events.
With almost 300,000 registered members (though far fewer remain active), the site has been very popular. Stormfront has been disproportionately responsible for some of the most lethal hate crimes and mass killings in recent memory. Since 2009, Stormfront members have murdered close to 100 people.
For domestic Islamic terrorists, the breeding ground for violence is often the Al Qaeda magazine Inspire and its affiliated websites. For the racists, it is Stormfront. View the timeline below:
