About Beyond the Vote

Alabama’s Got Now: Beyond the Vote is the SPLC’s Alabama campaign aimed at providing educational information, resources and tools to help engage and mobilize communities to actively participate in strengthening our democracy. The campaign will bring together community partners dedicated to ensuring that all Alabamians are empowered to bring about long-term transformational change in our state through the ballot box. The goal of the campaign is to increase civic engagement, increase voter turnout, challenge voter suppression measures, build community resiliency against mis/disinformation and ensure representational diversity at the ballot box. Our overarching goal is to help people understand the value of democratic participation and equip them with the tools to fight systemic barriers to voting in Alabama.

• Juneteenth Voter Engagement: Juneteenth stands as a poignant reminder of the profound interconnection between the struggle for racial equality and the fight for voting rights. Amid rampant voter suppression, Black Alabamians continue to work against those barriers. • Alabama’s Got Now Regional Campus Engagement Tours: SPLC’s Alabama State office regional campus tours is a nonpartisan effort to ensure youth are engaged and inspired in the voting process by making sure they register to vote and then vote. • Sept. 17 – National Voter Registration Day: In partnership with When We All Vote, the National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan civic holiday celebrating our democracy. Join our team, volunteers, and other community organizations in ensuring every eligible voter in Alabama is registered to vote. Sign up to volunteer.

• Oct. 7-11 – National Voter Education Week: During this week of interactive education, voters have the opportunity to find their polling location, understand their ballot, make a plan to vote, and inspire others to get involved. Sign up to volunteer with our team.
