Nativist Haters to Hold National Press Club Event

Next Tuesday, the National Press Club will again host a press conference by The Social Contract Press (TSCP), which has been listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center since 2002. The press conference is being held to announce the release of a new TSCP report, “The Twin Crises: Immigration and Infrastructure,” by Edwin S. Rubenstein. Formerly a mainstream journalist, Rubenstein has since the turn of the millennium specialized in writing for white supremacist organizations.

The Social Contract Press, which also publishes the hate journal, The Social Contract, was started by the racist founder of the Federation for American Immigration Reform hate group, John Tanton and is run by his editor, Wayne Lutton. Lutton has been on the board of advisors of the Council of Conservative Citizens, a hate group that has described black people as “a retrograde species of humanity.”

Under Lutton’s editorial leadership, Tanton’s Social Contract journal has published dozens of articles from prominent white supremacists. One special issue was even devoted to the theme of “Europhobia: The Hostility Toward European-Descended Americans” and featured a lead article from John Vinson, head of the Tanton-backed hate group, the American Immigration Control Foundation. Vinson argued that multiculturalism was replacing “successful Euro-American culture” with “dysfunctional Third World cultures.” Tanton elaborated in his own remarks, decrying the “unwarranted hatred and fear” of whites that he blamed on “multiculturalists” and immigrants.

In 1994, Tanton’s press also republished an infamous racist novel, The Camp of the Saints, along with his wholehearted endorsement and a special afterword from its white author saying that “the proliferation of other races dooms our race, my race, to extinction.” The novel describes the “swarthy hordes” of Indian immigrants who take over France, force white women into “a w----house for Hindus,” and, at one point, engage in a grotesque orgy of men, women and children. The immigrants are described as “monsters,” “grotesque little beggars from the streets of Calcutta,” and worse. Unconcerned, Tanton said he was “honored” to republish what he described as an important and “prescient” text.

Edwin Rubenstein, author of the new TSCP report, has written dozens of articles for white supremacist organizations. Among them are reports for the National Policy Institute (NPI), a white supremacist “think tank” founded in 2005 “to elevate the consciousness of whites, ensure our biological and cultural continuity, and protect our civil rights.” In 2008, Rubenstein wrote a report on the evils of diversity for NPI, concluding that diversity programs are displacing whites and “harming the economy as a whole.”

Rubenstein was the main researcher for an earlier NPI report, “The State of White America,” which gave “in concentrated form, a statistical and narrative portrait of the war on white America, and thus, on America herself.” The report’s introduction, written by Nicholas Stix, described the Supreme Court’s 1954 Brown vs. Board of Education ruling outlawing school segregation as “arguably the worse decision in the Court’s 216-year history.” It also alleged that later civil rights legislation was unconstitutional. “[I]ntegration and the civil rights movement led directly to the destruction of great cities,” it concludes.

Rubenstein also has written dozens of articles for the anti-immigrant hate site, VDARE.com, which is named for Virginia Dare, said to be the first English child born in America. In a 2003 posting, Rubenstein expressed his unflattering view of Latinos fairly plainly: “Overall, Hispanics show a significantly higher level of social pathology than American whites. There are even signs that, as a group, Hispanics may displace American blacks and form a new underclass.”
