Aryan Brotherhood Member Arrested in Utah for Attempted Murder
Angered after being denied a room at a Salt Lake City Ramada Inn, suspected Aryan Brotherhood member is charged with attempted murder after firing a hail of bullets.
Four months after he was arrested in a forgery raid in suburban Salt Lake City, a member of the white supremacist Aryan Brotherhood is back in jail amid accusations of attempted murder.
Delbert Wayne Auger fired more than a dozen rounds from a firearm in a Ramada Inn parking lot in Draper, Utah, after a clerk refused to rent him a room, KSTU-TV in Salt Lake City reported.
No one was injured in the hail of bullets, but several vehicles were struck and damaged. The suspect fled, but a police K9 unit found him hiding about a block away.
Auger, who uses the aliases “Greg Smith” and “Auggie Moniker,” is now being held in the Salt Lake County Jail on charges of felony discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a felony and attempted homicide, records show.
Auger “has a history of violence and run-ins with the police,” the Salt Lake television station reported. On Feb. 3, he was arrested when a violent crime task force raided a suspected drug house in the White City neighborhood of Sandy, Utah, breaking up a check-fraud ring, the Salt Lake Tribune reported. Five other people who left the house in vehicles while it was under police surveillance were stopped and arrested on felony drug, fraud and theft charges.
When the task force officers moved in to search the house, they found Auger hiding in “an outbuilding containing check-making equipment, including printers, laptop computers and check stock. Police also recovered a counterfeit $50 bill,” the Salt Lake newspaper reported.
At some point, he was released from jail for reasons which weren’t immediately clear from court records.
Police say Auger is a member of the “Silent Aryan Warriors,” a prison and street gang with Aryan Brotherhood affiliations. The Aryan Brotherhood is considered the largest and most-dangerous white supremacist gang in the United States, operating in and out of prisons in nearly every state.
Auger’s criminal record includes burglary, drug-related violations, credit card, and identity fraud, the newspaper reported.
