MTV aired a powerful public service announcement last night about the protests in Ferguson, Missouri – part of a campaign designed with input from the SPLC and other organizations.
The PSA, which aired during the 2014 Video Music Awards, is part of MTV’s “Look Different” campaign, which seeks to “erase the hidden racial, gender and anti-LGBT bias all around us.”
The PSA was covered by The Washington Post, BuzzFeed and The Huffington Post.
The protests, which occurred after Michael Brown was shot a half-dozen times by a police officer earlier this month, have highlighted issues of race and bias in the criminal justice system.
“The rage in Ferguson goes beyond the death of Michael Brown,” said Lecia Brooks, SPLC director of outreach. “It’s about what African Americans in Ferguson and elsewhere experience every day.”
