SPLC: Supreme Court’s decision on deferred action programs a blow to sensible immigration policy
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The following statement regarding the Supreme Court ruling on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and Deferred Action for Parental Arrivals programs is by Naomi Tsu, Southern Poverty Law Center deputy legal director.
“The Supreme Court’s decision is a severe blow to sensible immigration policy, and will push immigrants with strong family ties to this country even deeper into the shadows. Parents won’t be able to work jobs that will support their families, and millions of immigrants won’t have the chance to pursue a better future.
“These commonsense programs have long been the target of politically motivated attacks, but they are urgently needed in the United States – a nation where immigrants are an integral part of our communities. We will continue fighting for sensible immigration policy that respects the civil rights of all immigrants.”
