SPLC: Dismissal of Alabama’s Syrian refugee lawsuit shows case was baseless
The following statement regarding a federal judge’s dismissal of Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley’s lawsuit over the resettlement of Syrian refugees in the state is by Naomi Tsu, deputy legal director of the Southern Poverty Law Center:
“We are pleased the court dismissed this baseless lawsuit, which has already wasted too much taxpayer money. It has been clear from the beginning that Governor Bentley’s attempt to use the courts to keep Syrian refugees out of Alabama was nothing more than a political stunt.
“This lawsuit – and others like it – only stoke Islamophobia in the United States. Welcoming immigrants in desperate need of sanctuary is an American value we must uphold.”
