SPLC: Alabama does the right thing, drops appeal of refugee resettlement suit
Governor Kay Ivey was right to drop the appeal of Alabama's frivolous lawsuit over refugee placement.
This mean-spirited lawsuit demonized Syrian children and families fleeing from an unspeakably violent civil war and was simply designed to score political points. Refugees already undergo intensive vetting and must pass a number of thorough security checks.
We hope to see Alabama, and the Trump administration at the federal level, take seriously our country's longstanding values by welcoming refugees seeking an opportunity for a safe and productive future.
