EXCLUSIVE REPORTING: Anonymous Donor Drops $2 Million in Bitcoin on Alex Jones

WASHINGTON, D.C. - A new investigative report released today by the Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) Hatewatch reveals that an anonymous donor has donated more than $2 million U.S. dollars in Bitcoin to Alex Jones over the last few weeks. The donations, made to an address advertised on the conspiracy website Infowars, come amid Jones’ ongoing legal battles with the Sandy Hook families.

“A very wealthy person is trying to prop Alex Jones up just as he is close to being held accountable for his lies about the Sandy Hook mass murder,” said SPLC Senior Investigative Reporter Michael Edison Hayden, who co-authored the report. “We have documented the way extremists use cryptocurrency to organize and obscure their funding. It isn't at all surprising to see Jones turning to cryptocurrency now."

Jones launched the new “crypto” page to solicit donations on his conspiracy website Infowars.com on April 7, 2021, two days after the U.S. Supreme Court denied him a critical appeal in the Sandy Hook case. On April 18th, Infowars and two other companies owned by Jones, Infowars Health and Prison Planet TV, filed for bankruptcy.

The report details the bitcoin transactions that followed the bankruptcy filing as well as previous donations made by another megadonor and Jones' growing use of cryptocurrency as his legal woes grew. Jones also holds Ethereum tokens and traffics in Infowars-branded Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs).
