Southern Poverty Law Center Interim President Karen Baynes-Dunning issued the following statement about President Trump's tweet this morning comparing the impeachment process to lynching:

"For Trump to characterize a legal impeachment inquiry as a lynching shows a complete disrespect for the thousands of Black people lynched — murdered — throughout our nation's history in acts of racism and hatred.

Trump needs a lesson on the vicious and inhumane history of lynching in America. One visit to Bryan Stevenson and Equal Justice Initiative’s National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama, will prevent anyone from trivializing the dehumanization of African Americans.”
