SPLC Action Fund Statement on Trump’s Rally in Tulsa Tonight
TULSA, Okla. — SPLC Action Fund President and CEO Margaret Huang issued the below statement following President Trump’s rally tonight in Tulsa, Okla., the day after Juneteenth and near the site of the 1921 massacre that left up to 300 Black people murdered in the area once known as Black Wall Street.
“Tonight, without remorse, President Trump continued his crusade of stoking fear to divide our nation instead of working to unify it. He used the event to call Black Lives Matter protesters ‘thugs,’ labeled immigrants gang members, made various racist comments, and incited violence.
“Not once did he mention the Black people who have been killed by police or vigilantes, and instead called peaceful protesters who are demanding justice for the murders "bad people." He even suggested that his supporters use guns against them if needed.
“Calling for violence against fellow citizens is shocking and even more so when done so by the commander in chief. Now more than ever is the time for us to unite and reject all forms of hate and bigotry.”
