SPLC Statement on Trump’s Expanded Muslim Ban
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) issued the following statement by Melissa Crow, senior supervising attorney with the SPLC’s Immigrant Justice Project:
“President Trump’s expansion of his Muslim Ban is yet another manifestation of this administration’s hateful and discriminatory agenda enacted in the name of fear, nativism and xenophobia. This abhorrent order is bolstered by Stephen Miller, the architect of this administration’s most extreme anti-immigrant policies. The SPLC recently exposed Miller’s affinity for white nationalism and the expanded ban does exactly what Miller intends – it actively harms and separates Muslim, brown and Black American families.
“The expanded travel ban is the latest iteration of policy servicing the mainstreaming of hate, at a time when anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant hate crimes are on the rise. Trump’s latest initiative further demonizes immigrants, refugees and the communities that make America strong.
“Without further delay, our lawmakers must pass the No BAN Act and loudly and decisively stop this hateful ban in its tracks. Our leaders must uphold the values held by the majority of Americans who stand for religious freedom over bigotry, sanctuary over walls, and compassion over division.”
