Supreme Court Decision Paves Way for National Monument Dedicated to Xenophobia and Racism
The following statement is from Mary Bauer, deputy legal director of the Southern Poverty Law Center's Immigrant Justice Project:
“The Supreme Court’s decision today is a dangerous step towards the construction of a national monument dedicated to xenophobia and racism on our southern border.
“A wall doesn’t fix our broken immigration system – it only reinforces our deliberately cruel and barbaric policy of separating families and denying refuge to innocent asylum seekers. The crisis at our southern border is a result of this administration’s relentless war on asylum-seekers and immigrants in general.
“At this point, the burden is on Congress. They must step up and both provide more oversight and take on true immigration reform.”
